The second phase of the Lab, the Nanoscale Science Facility, was opened in May 2004 by Professor Sir Michael Pepper FRS. The NPRL now encompasses a flourishing range of both fundamental and applied research programs. An interdisciplinary and international approach is central to the ethos of the Lab. Lab sustains international research collaborations with a whole series of partners in Europe and worldwide. The NPRL is also committed to the transfer of new concepts and technological innovations from the research lab into industry, including our spin-out companies, creating new opportunities for sustainable economic development. NPRL’s latest paper in Nature Communications, another result of our very fruitful collaboration with Bath.

The picture shows Vice President of the University, Prof. The first full issue of the new journal Advances in Physics: X is now online! NPRL is delighted to be assisting the Bavarian Nanotechnology Cluster in Germany to promote their outreach program to schools in the state. 2006 in order to better exploit the enormous potential of nanotechnology and is supported by the Bavarian state government. World-leading researchers engage in modern science at the cutting edge of theory and experiment.

We give talks and demonstrations at schools and colleges. Studying in Bristol is an amazing experience. The university is one of the best in the country with excellent facilities which offer us a wide range of opportunities. What sets the School of Physics in Bristol apart is the friendly academic staff and the huge number of research opportunities.

What’s it really like at Bristol? Find out about the school and what our students think about studying here. Find people who work in Physics. When researching a famous historical figure, access to their work and materials usually proves to be one of the biggest obstacles. But things are much more difficult for those writing about the life of Marie Curie, the scientist who, along her with husband Pierre, discovered polonium and radium and birthed the idea of particle physics. If you want to look at her manuscripts, you have to sign a liability waiver at France’s Bibliotheque Nationale, and then you can access the notes that are sealed in a lead-lined box.

The Curies didn’t know about the dangers of radioactive materials, though they did know about radioactivity. Marie Curie died at age 66 in 1934, from aplastic anemia, attributed to her radioactive research. The house, however, continued to be used up until 1978 by the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Paris Faculty of Science and the Curie Foundation. After that it was kept under surveillance, authorities finally aware of the dangers inside. The laboratory and the building were decontaminated in 1991, a year after the Curie estate began allowing access to Curie’s notes and materials, which had been removed from the house. Still, passing away at 66 is not too shabby when one has changed the world in the name of science.

Who’s to say that the cancer Marie later died from was not caused from chemical exposure in WWI? I thought plutonium was isolated much later, as in 1940. Chemicals for the most part do not cause cancer regardless of all of the false information that has been put out to the public about that. 90 percent of Cancer is caused by Radioactive Particulate inside the body.

Anybody with a Grade School education can easily see that. Plutonium and Polonium are two different chemicals. Polonium causes Lung cancer with glee. Plutonium causes cancer anywhere in the body with glee. Ask the USS Reagan Sailors who are dying from Hideous diseases. The FIRST book about her life was written by her second daughter!
